I wanted to brand a couple comments since I am the one who submitted this recipe and parts were edited out or changed before posting. First, whatever flavor of jam volition do. Employ your favorite. I merely happen to like bootleg strawberry freezer jam. Also, this recipe does Non require the milk to be 2%. Whole milk is fine. And, for optional added elegence, you can use a creamed mixture of 8 oz cream cheese, (softened) ane cup confectioner's carbohydrate and one tsp of vanilla. Beat until flossy and spread on roll before spreading jam if desired. This creamed part is just a nice added bonus. Lamentable, I don't know why this were changed or left out of the recipe.

This recipe is perfect. If you have problems with breaking there are a few things you need to cheque or be aware of: 1. Using cake flour or a depression gluten flour is all-time. If this is non available, add together corn starch (one/3 corn starch to 2/3 flour). High gluten flour is proficient for breads and pizza dough, not jelly rolls. 2. Be sure you are non OVERBAKING the cake, this will dry information technology out and cause it to intermission. Try the lower cease of the baking time starting time. I am an proficient at making other cake rolls - I followed this recipe exactly and it was a very dry out crumbled mess. I can't recomend this.

This recipe is AWFUL! It was dry and cracked every time. I actually tried it iii times, determined to get the recipe to work. Finally after an one one/two hours and a huge waste of supplies I pulled out my Betty Crocker melt book and snap I took a perfect Jelly roll out of my oven 20 min later.

Splendid! This was my start time making a jelly curl. I followed the recipe exactly as written including the times alloted. It turned out perfect! Thanks Barb Maxwell, non only for the recipe but for your review telling about the foam cheese mixture as an added bonus. It was a real hit at our house.

This recipe turned out perfectly! I have a difficult time making jelly rolls without them bully or breaking, simply this recipe provided simply the right "sponginess", so it didn't break when rolling. I let the block cool for a few minutes before I attempted to roll it the first time.

My husband asked me for a jelly roll out of the blue and though I love to cook I feared it was going to be a challange only this recipe is fool proof and the jelly whorl turned out great. I added the foam cheese recipe and information technology was perfect!!!!

I really was hoping for a better result. I even tried information technology a second time when the first ane didn't turn out. However, I only baked for eight min. and followed the recipe EXACTLY and when I unrolled it to put the jelly on, the cake cracked and fell autonomously. The cake itself did had a proficient flavour though.

Followed the recipe exactly w/o the two% milk, whole. It turned out perfectly. The jam in my photograph is bootleg Elder jam, made by my son & daughter-in-law. I hint: if you lot use the cream cheese filling, you lot might want to reduce the corporeality of jam. The cream cheese prevents the jam from sticking to the cake and the excess oozes out.

This is an excellent recipe! I have tried and then many recipes for what nosotros call swiss rolls (same as a jelly coil), simply they are usually eggy and bland. I overcooked mine a fiddling, and then no fault of the recipe. I used a combination of whipped cream and caramel equally the filling to duplicate the swiss scroll fabricated by a local deli and it was bliss!

I've been making jelly rolls for a while and this recipe is the best one. Easy fast and looks and tastes amazing!!!! Just watch the jelly roll carefully every bit information technology bakes, i infinitesimal extra and its too dry out and will crack. I notice it a fleck sweet so I use less sugar and dust my towel with flour.

I doubled the recipe since I take a bigger tray/sail. It bankrupt a fiddling when I rolled it, but no major issues. I added cream cheese mixture then the jam. Looks fantastic! My husband asked me if this was for work and I said no. It is for u.s.. He gave me a big grin. I topped it with cherries. Yummy. Just like my grandma used to make.

This recipe is then delicious with the foam cheese & icing saccharide filling with my homemade strawberry freezer jam. Instead of vanilla, I used almond flavouring.

I was very disappointed with this reipe. I followed this recipe to the letter and it did not plough out. When un-rolling it cracked so bad it could non be used. I gave it two stars for a great gustatory modality. All the jelly roll stye cakes I've apply in the past require seperating the eggs and whiping the egg whites. I alway get a calorie-free soft fluffy cake from those. Wanted something easier. Guess cut corners doesn't e'er work.

this cake is dry and crumbly. I am an experienced cook who has fabricated several cake rolls; I did non remember in that location were plenty ingredients in the recipe. This did not begin to fill my cake pan of 10" by 15" Should accept stopped right in that location! I wish I would have read the reviews first, but this is the showtime recipe from this website that has not worked for me.

this was pretty good, merely I didnt use jelly. I used water ice cream. I got the idea from a recipe book I had on hand. I used butter pecan ice foam with cream cheese frosting. Not depression-fat, merely definitely yummy.

I am not much of a baker but I tried this recipe to be sold at a church building fundraiser and took samples and everyone loved information technology. I followed the directions and every time I have made it, it has come up out keen! One of my sons friends request it every fourth dimension I see him.

Yum! Is cake did not last v minutes in our house. Instead of plain jam or the cream cheese filling I mixed the strawberry jam into whipped cream and filled it with that. Besides instead of powdered carbohydrate I used granulated sugar for the outside. Our taste buds were in heaven!!! On the downside I could not get the cake to not fissure. The second time I made it ( the day after the offset!) I tried to tip to cook it shorter (viii min) and found it cracked fifty-fifty worse and was a little raw in the middle. Will go along trying-- so worth information technology!

I idea maybe it was me simply having an off day baking, just later trying over again, this only isn't working. The cake just does not bake well. It tears, and cracks, if information technology comes out of the pan in one piece that is. I volition exist going back to my original recipe. The flavor was non so bad, simply non good for a jelly ringlet. I actually took the pieces and made a trifle with them.

I followed this recipe exactly and the cake came out very dry and chewy. I did bake for more than 8 mins because the cake was definitely not ready to come out of the oven. Other than that, I did not do annihilation different.

I was so deplorable this did not turn out. Something must be missing. I did not over bake it simply it seemed like in that location was not enough block there. This even stuck to the parchment paper. I still continued on with this and wasted virtually a whole jar of my strawberry preserves. Sorry.

This was my first try at a jelly roll cake and it was a success! My hubby went in for a second piece. There was a tiny chip of peachy, but I was able to work with it. This recipe is a keeper

Ok, first time always making a jelly coil and I followed this recipe exactly aaaaannd, as my OH said, "nailed information technology"! Lol! I was concernes with the mixed reviews simply I mae sure to keep an eye on the sponge, adjusted the temp/timings equally I have a gas, fan oven (also used the bottom shelf to be safe). Once out the oven, I worked rapidly turning information technology out, peeled off the paper and carefully rolled it upwardly and allowed information technology to cool per the instructions. Again, working advisedly, spread the jam and rolled the sponge back up. Voila!! ??

I made it exactly as directed. Came out great, rolled great and I'yard a newbie at the rolling part. I used raspberry filling, ane of our favorites. But honestly the cake was dry. Merely in fairness I was full of junk (cause I was in the kitchen) so I have wrapped information technology tightly and going to walk abroad and taste later. Has anyone ever apply a block mix for a rolled cake. If so how much concoction?

if you use vanilla saccharide (sweden) use 3 times as much and instead of a towel apply parchment paper and if you don't accept parchment newspaper use canola oil soaked aluminum foil

I used this recipe to make a Buche de Noel. It turned out great!! Thanks BARB MAXWELL! Not my outset jelly roll, but I'1000 not an adept either. I did make some adjustments / changes - I'k a purist, by no means. We had no cake flour, then I used regular + a bit of cornstarch every bit suggested by The Dutch Girl. I left my eggs out to warm up a flake, considering I read somewhere that warmish eggs were the cloak-and-dagger to a perfect sponge cake. Also I used brown saccharide in stead of white, and I added a couple spoons cocoa pulverization & a big dollop of sour cream. I happen to know my oven runs a bit hot so I watched information technology closely and but baked it for virtually 6 min until information technology was done. For the filling I used the foam cheese thought, some more than sour cream, icing sugar, vanilla, a splash of milk and yep, more than cocoa pulverisation. I know some of you are thinking - that I've made a completely different cake than this recipe, simply all the other chocolate roll/ yule log recipes I could find had half a dozen eggs separated & own't nobody got fourth dimension for that. The biggest problem I had with this recipe was the fighting over the terminal slice at my vacation party! I will definitely make this again, maybe with some homemade jam this summer!

I was actually bummed about how this turned out. It didn't fifty-fifty brainstorm to fill the pan I used, so I doubled the recipe. When I pulled information technology from the oven, the majority of it stuck to the parchment paper. Concluded upwards using a different recipe. I would suggest that peradventure this might work meliorate (as far as removal from the parchment paper that the newspaper be sprayed with Baker's Joy or another type of flour/oil spray then that it doesn't stick to the paper). Might make another get at it another time...

Showtime attempt. Going to endeavor to bake less next time and maybe add together some egg whites. Needs a piffling fluffier. I don't like powdered sugar on mine. And I suggest you roll with parchment considering information technology sticks badly to towel

this is ane amazing recipe, i fabricated this with home made peach marmalade and sweet whipped cream in the role. it was as fine a pastry as any french pastry and looked totally commercial looking. put it in the freezer for a couple of hours wrapped tight in wax paper and take out xx min before serving. i accept ii advise: 1- after baking and before rolling in the towel, cutting with a abrupt pocketknife 1/four" off all 4 sides 2-since the dough does not have whatever butter, adding whipped cream on the within adds a lot. fun blistering everyone,

I concur with many others here, something is missing from this recipe. Not enough liquid. Measurements are off. Came out dry and crunchy. I took it out of the oven when it had just blushed golden on pinnacle.

The ringlet is yummy, possibly milk would be a better substitute for water. and make sure not to OVER cook the cake, not even a few minutes longer... you'll get a not and so fluffy, spongey taste. I wish there was an EASIER way to proceed the scroll, rolled! :o) peradventure even sticking toothpicks in information technology to concur it in place until slicing it onto someone's lucky plate ?? :o)

The taste was okay but the texture was awful. The flour and carbohydrate ratio are non well ballanced. The cake was crumbly and dry. Rolling information technology was impossible without breaking it.

Made this for my cornball married man. Yous really have to watch the time or it crumbles. Make sure y'all curl it very tight or y'all will have a flat layered blob. Very easy and delicious to brand.

I added an actress i.5 tablespoons of milk. It turned out really well, very happy with it. Adjacent time ill add the cream inside with the jam, i retrieve the jam on its ain just wasnt consummate, but all the same gustation

Followed recipe exactly. It was Non a thin concoction. About the consistency of a macaron batter. Sponge is dry and crumbly, and tough. Quite disappointed.

There is definitely something wrong with this recipe, The only reason information technology got 2 stars is because I was able to salvage it into something else. There was cipher wrong with the sense of taste, however, I barely had plenty batter for the jelly curlicue pan. I've made a jelly curl once before many years agone and it turned out beautifully so I exercise know how it'south supposed to look. I'1000 still determined to brand a jelly curlicue today so I'm going to find another recipe that would exist mode unlike than this ane.
